I decided I wanted to challenge myself and get back in to some longer races again after having the kids. Pre kids (Chris and) I had done a certain amount of adventure racing and mountain marathons but never anything of the scale of LiaD. But I thought it would be a good challenge!

New LOC coaches (2021)
New LOC coaches qualified thanks to a £1,000 grant from the Orienteering Foundation.

Iain Smith-Ward, Gill Browne and Jean Bell are working on their Level 2 coaching award, we wish them success in their final assessments.
Six members also attended an ‘Introduction to Coaching’ day.
Having the ‘OF’ grant made a big difference to enabling these to take place and our investment in coaches. Look out for more of these in the coming months.

Success at British Sprint Championships
Several solo and team medals were earned in the British Sprint Championships at Skelmersdale August 21st - 22nd 2021.
LOC Scafell Relay team (Karen Heppenstall, Noah Howlett, Matthew Horne and Anne Edwards) - Silver in the Elite Mixed Relay.
Carol McNeill- Individual Gold W75.
Liz Heaton - Individual Silver W40.
Laura Brown - Individual Slver W16.
Mud Wood Club Session
Last Thursday Matt Rooke organised an activity session for the children at the Mud Wood Club at Hobkin Ground Farm, Broughton Mills. There were about 15 children taking part aged 2 to 11, plus some parents, and everyone had a good time and enjoyed the sport aspect of it (including the stubs on a washing line results). This was also Matt's first attempt at a "proper" orienteering map (attached) using LiDAR thanks to Carol's Zoom webinars with Martin Bagness.
Junior Lockdown Coaching

Mapping award to Martin Bagness
Martin Bagness (alias Bilbo) - a Coach and Mapper extraordinaire, has been awarded the 2020 Bonington Trophy for Services To Mapping.
Martin is a tremendous asset to the South Lakes and especially Lakeland OC.
