What does this mean?
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Report
Hello Everyone,
Thank you to all those that turned up on what could have been a very wet afternoon. It was a bit damp but I didn't notice any really heavy showers during the event.
League points will be added in due course.
As always, many thanks to everyone who has helped with getting this series off the ground especially Kath, Carol and Ali. Today's roll of honour includes Matt for planning, Peter for controlling, helpers Lindsay, Jenni, Kath, Carol, Steve, Judy, Gav, Jo and SI Team of Michael, Andrew and Andy.
The next event in the LOC Junior Orienteering League series is on 8th November at Low Park Wood, Kendal. In the meantime, don't miss the Maprun Series from Sunday 5th October to Saturday 1st November with a week in each of Ulverston, Kendal Centre, Bowness and Grange; the Coaching Day on Saturday 1st November at Black Beck; and the LOC Gallopen event on Sunday 2nd November at Wansfell & Skelgyll Wood (venue TBC).
Any comments on the results, please drop us a line on SSScoring@lakelandoc.uk
Many thanks,
Michael
Overview
The LOC Saturday series aims to provide families, juniors and adults with the opportunity to learn and develop map-reading skills while improving their fitness in the fun, competitive and challenging sport of orienteering.
These events will combine Family/Junior Adventures (introductory orienteering for newcomers and families) with a new Junior Orienteering League and Schools League for progressing juniors alongside a Score Course suitable for experienced orienteers.
Friendly helpers and coaches will be available with orienteering tips.

Pre-event Details
Map / Terrain
The area is previously unused for an orienteering event and is across the road to the east from the main Water Park facility.
Scale 1:4000 and 5m contours.
New map for 2025 by Martin Bagness
The map will be size A4 and printed on waterproof paper.
A sloping woodland with looping paths. Some runnable beech sections, some semi-open areas, and many rock features.
White will remain on the paths, but Yellow will require the use of other line features including a linear marsh, stream and wall. The Orange competitors will be aided by use of linear features such as distinct vegetation boundaries and crags.
There is undergrowth. This will hopefully improve by mid-September.
Some course legs may be taped.
Course Information
White
Shortest and easiest to navigate – follows paths, with checkpoints at each path junction to help with decision making.
0.9 km 55 m climb 12 controls
Yellow
Longer and fairly easy navigation – follows paths and line features (fences, walls,…), some decisions to be made at paths junctions without a checkpoint, checkpoints may be just off the line features.
1.2 km 80 m climb 11 controls
Yellow has a leg with tapes leading from the control to a linear feature.
Orange
Longer with a little more navigational challenge. Moving away from the obvious line features to find controls on a wider range of features. Begin to use skills such as looking at the brown contour lines to recognise the shape of the land and using your compass to help you decide which direction to head!
1.3 km 85 m climb 13 controls
Orange has a leg with tapes leading from the control to a linear feature.
Score
A more challenging option, the score course allows you to choose your own route to visit as many controls as you can in the time limit.
Score 20 controls, 30 minutes, 10 points a control, -5 per part of minute late.
Start and Finish
adjacent to registration and download at the Kennels building.
This is across the road from parking. The crossing will be marshalled, but parents are asked to supervise their children. There is no gate between Kennels and the road.
Entry Details
Online entries are available via SiEntries. Online entry will close at 23:59 on Wednesday 10th September.
There is a small charge of £2 per entry.
For this price, juniors can run as many courses as they like during the session.
Adults will not be charged an entry fee when only participating with and supporting juniors but an entry fee of £2 will apply for running competitively on any course (which is encouraged).
Please complete your entry for the first course that you wish to complete on the day – if you are unsure, this can be changed on the day if necessary.
Juniors wishing to score in the league MUST run their league-scoring course first. Please see our Saturday Series rules for more information. They can then enter subsequent courses at registration before going back to the start.
For a junior running on their own to score in the League select ‘yes’ for the League option and choose your school year group and school name from the drop-down boxes.
To take part in the Adventure option as a family group or in a pair, select ‘no’ for the league question.
Individual results will be published for all participants on all courses including the Score course for experienced orienteers.
We prefer entries to be made online in advance of the event. This will avoid longer queues at the event.
Entry on the day will also be possible at each event while map stocks remain. Please bring the correct change for your entry fees.

Registration for entry on the day will open at 1:00pm.
SI cards (dibbers) and compasses will be available at Registration for those who do not have their own.
