Map / Terrain
The Helm is simply one hill of limited orienteering technicality but considerable steepness. It is divided into two halves – east and west. The eastern half has short grass and pleasant running no doubt due to the cows and horses that graze there. Please give them a wide berth if you encounter them. The western half is not grazed and so is nastier and scratchier. The bracken for the control sites used was OK 10 days before race day but it is growing fast. Full leg cover is strongly advised.
There is a wall dividing the two halves and it can only be crossed at any of the 3 gates. All courses cross it twice. Usually the choice of gate is obvious and the red line has been diverted accordingly but the long course has one leg with a choice of gates.
Course Information
Long 4.6km 205m 17 controls

Start and finish
Take the public footpath south from the farm (it will be signed). After 300m

way.
