What does this mean?
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Congratulations to everyone who joined us for the Club Champs event at Tarn Hows this morning, we hope you enjoyed the courses, and for those who also ran last night, found it easier in the daylight !
Many thanks to everyone involved in putting on today's event - Andy for planning, Dick for safety controlling, Gill for organising, Peter and Lindsay for manning the start, Anne and Scott for waking up the controls, Ali for manning registration/download, the control collectors Gav, Kath and Cath and Clare for getting to the Sports & Social Club to open up for us and Iain and Derek F for organising the presentations. Also many thanks to the Coniston Sports and Social Club for allowing us to use their lovely hall.

Fast Cat Trophy - Michael Napier (this is awarded to the oldest member of the club, who has scored at least 3 championship times at the bigger events over the year, who also hasn't won it previously)

Navigator Trophy - Ali & Mike Hooper (this is presented for services to orienteering and the club)

We've checked Tarn Hows this morning and both events tonight and tomorrow are going ahead as planned !
Due to Storm Eowyn we are concerned about possible damage to Tarn Hows which could impact the feasibility & safety of running the Weekend events.
We advise that everyone attending the NWNL event &/or the Club Champs checks the website before travelling.
Welcome to the LOC Club Champs event 2025 at Tarn Hows - please note entry to this event is open to LOC club members only. The aim is for us all to finish at exactly the same time at 12 midday,
so first choose a suitable course ,
then guesstimate how long the course will take you based on the distance, climb and your ability
Enter on-line entering your estimated start time when prompted (there will be entry on the day available)
Tarn Hows is a fantastic area; it has a real mix of the open fell, pasture and conifer forest. The area is covered in Lakeland features knolls, spurs and contour features, crags, streams.
Please also join us at the Coniston Sports & Social Club after the main event for a Jacobs Join lunch & Prizegiving (please bring either a savoury or sweet dish to share with everyone, and your own crockery, cutlery, and mug/cup, drinks will be provided)

It is a large car park but there is always the chance that it will fill up. So, especially if you are one or two in a car, consider meeting at the Coniston Sport and Social Centre and sharing a car up to Tarn Hows

Directions:
The directions shown previously on this webpage cannot be used because the road is closed. Instead:
1. Turn right (not left) out of the car park.
2. After c. 1.5k turn right again.
3. After c. 0.5 k turn right onto the B5285 for Coniston.
4. After c. 2k bear right staying on the B5285
5. After just over 1k, arriving at the village, immediately after a flat bridge, turn right into Shepherds Bridge Lane.
6. The Social Centre is 200m on the right.

You decide your own start time, but no watches are allowed (or must be covered so you can't see the time during the race). There will be a clock at the start.
