What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

A delightful, mainly broadleaved, small woodland with some intricate contour detail, but not that difficult. Some paths and walls. The Long course runs both south and north of a less pleasant area surrounded by a deer fence, so there is some dead running in both directions through this block.

Directions / Parking

Parking for competitors is along the side of the road running past Rusland Church. Registration is in the small parking area for Rusland Reading Room, which is opposite the church. We have access to the toilet in the Reading Room.

The Long and Short courses will be technical (TD5) and the map scale will be 1:5000 for both courses.

There will be a safety control after the Finish, please punch there as you go past as it is an important part of our safety strategy.

The distance from the Download to the start will be about 450m and about 150m from the finish back to the Download.

Course will close at 19.30. You must be back by that time to ensure we don’t start to organise a search for you.

Please remember to return to Download as soon as possible when you have finished your run.

How to choose a course

Entry Details

Entry fees:

  • Seniors: £5
  • Junior & Students: £3

Please bring the correct cash for your entries in a sealed envelope with your name(s) and entry fee(s) written on the front. If you don’t have the correct money, change can be given, so long as you are happy to accept the risk of infection.

Hire dibbers wil be available, free of charge but with a £30 charge if lost.

Registration and Start times

We will use EOD and dibber entry for these Night events.

Runners using their own registered SI cards should bring them to registration to streamline the process and the information accuracy for the results. All runners must also provide safety and contact information as well.

Registration will be from 17.30 - 18.30.

Open start times will be from 18.00 - 18.30 but runners who will find it difficult to start by 18.30 should contact the the series coordinator (Dick Towler). There is no mass start, and runners should start at least 30 seconds apart.

Can we please have a couple of volunteers to collect controls after the event and some competitors may be asked to stay until 19.30 when courses close in case someone fails to return on time.

Facilities

Precautions

Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

Runners must carry a lamp suitable for navigation and a backup lamp.

Whistles will be compulsory.

Since this is a Lakeland area on a Winter night please remember that you may need to wear or carry appropriate clothing. Full lower leg cover is required. If the weather is inclement, cagoules may be compulsory, make sure you bring one to the event.

Full leg cover must be worn.

Traders

There will be no traders or food stalls.

Toilets

We have access to the toilet in the Reading Room.

First aid and medical

First aid will be available at the finish but please DIY if at all possible to avoid unnecessary contact.

Companions will be asked to take injured people to hospital if needed.
