What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

We had another lovely dry and sunny day for the second Turkey Race at Rydal Hall today and another massive turnout, including more new faces - welcome to you all ! We hope you all enjoyed the great courses and weren't thrown by the unusual 1:2,500 map scale. 

We are grateful to Rydal Hall for use of the area for both the event and parking and also for use of the barn for registration/download and refreshments.

Today's roll of honour goes to Sam for planning, Michael O for Safety, Gill for organising, Gill, Rick and Peter H for car parking, Iain for first aid cover, Jerry for helping on the start, the control collectors Sam, Jamie, Michael and Ellie and the SI Team of Ali, Chris and Andy.

Directions / Parking

Parking is located within the hall grounds along gravel tracks; please stay to the right and follow all instructions from parking officials to ensure safety near runners. After your run, follow the taped route from the finish to the hall for refreshments, making sure to use gates properly and avoid climbing any walls or fences.

Map / Terrain

The courses features a diverse landscape of steep slopes, fields, small technical woodlands, and rocky terrain alongside scenic rivers and gardens with a small sprint area. Shoes with grip are recommended, there are sections of tarmac paths. Whistles and cags (waterproof jackets) may be compulsory depending on the weather conditions.

Essential Safety & Site Rules

Access: Use marked gates but ensure they are closed behind you. Do not climb fences or walls.

Hazards: Stay alert for barbed wire, livestock, and other site users like bikers and pedestrians.

Out of Bounds: Strictly respect all "Out of Bounds" (OOB) areas marked on your map.

How to choose a course

Entry Details

Online entries are available via SiEntries. Online entry will close at 23:59 on Tuesday 23rd December, some entry on the day will also be available.

Fees for online entry:
 

  • £8 for seniors who are members of either British Orienteering (BO) or LOC
  • £9 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
  • £4 for juniors and full-time students
  • Free for LOC Juniors

Higher entry fee to cover access fee and parking.

Fees for entry on the day (Cash only & correct change please):

  • £9 for seniors who are members of either BO or LOC
  • £10 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
  • £4 for juniors and full-time students
  • Free for LOC Juniors

Registration and Start times

Registration will be open from 10.00am

Inside a barn or hall.

Starts are between 10.30 and 12.30

Courses close at 14.00

Facilities

Refreshments: Teas, coffees, and mince pies are available in the hall, which is taped from the finish. Please bring your own mug if you'd like a drink !
