What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Overview

Kendal Golf Course offers fast running on mainly short grass. Unfortunately, after Storm Arwen, there are lots of windblown trees in Serpentine Woods, so this part of the map cannot be used. This area is an ideal introduction to night orienteering in terrain. Just don’t cross any of the greens, please.

Directions / Parking

Parking will be in the car park for Kendal Golf Club behind the clubhouse at SD 508 927.

Kendal Golf Course is at The Heights, High Tenterfell, Kendal LA9 4PQ. Approaching from the south, enter Kendal up the A6, pass Kendal College on your left, then take the 3rd road on the left, which is Gillingate. Go straight across the junction at the top of Gillingate. After another 100m, bear left into the driveway up to the Golf Club. Parking is behind the Clubhouse.

We will not have access to the changing rooms except for the toilets, please use a face covering when entering the building.

The Long and Short courses will be technical (TD5) and the map scale will be 1:7500 for both courses.

There will be a safety control after the Finish, please punch there as you go past as it is an important part of our safety strategy.

Course will close at 19.30.

How to choose a course

Entry Details

The entry fees are:

  • Seniors: £5
  • Junior & Students: £3

Please bring the correct cash for your entries in a sealed envelope with your name(s) and entry fee(s) written on the front. No change will be given.

Hire dibbers wil be available, free of charge but with a £30 charge if lost.

Registration and Start times

We will use EOD and dibber entry for these Night events, runners should wear a face covering when they register and download please.

Runners using their own registered SI cards should bring them to registration to streamline the process and the information accuracy for the results. All runners must also provide safety and contact information as well.

Registration will be from 17.30 - 18.30.

Open start times will be from 18.00 - 18.30 but runners who will find it difficult to start by 18.30 should contact the the series coordinator (Dick Towler). There is no mass start, and runners should start at least 30 seconds apart.

Please can we have a couple of volunteers to collect controls after the event and some competitors may be asked to stay until 19.30 when courses close in case someone fails to return on time.

Facilities

Precautions

Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

Runners must carry a lamp suitable for navigation and a backup lamp.

Whistles will be compulsory.

Since this is a Lakeland area on a Winter night please remember that you may need to wear or carry appropriate clothing. Full lower leg cover is required. If the weather is inclement, cagoules may be compulsory, make sure you bring one to the event.

Traders

There will be no traders or food stalls.

Toilets

We will have access to Golf Club toilets only, please use a face covering when entering the building.

First aid and medical

First aid will be available at the finish but please DIY if at all possible to avoid unnecessary contact.

Companions will be asked to take injured people to hospital if needed.
