What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Report

What a lovely day today, to be enjoying the sunshine and Pete's great courses at Great Tower - thank you to all 400+ of you who joined us ! Also thank you for taking heed of the request to car share and to the Scouts for allowing us to use the area.

These events, as we all know, wouldn't happen without the efforts of so many people behind the scenes, so a big thank you to all the LOC volunteers today, particularly Pete for planning, Tim for organising and Andy for controlling.

Directions / Parking

No parking fee, some of the parking is on the roadside and some in car parks.
Parking is limited so please share transport if possible. NT Fellfoot is a good place for friends to meet up and share a lift to the event if you have NT membership.
VW Transporter size campervans acceptable. Most of the parking is at the roadside or on soft ground and is not suitable for motorhome sized campers, so please do not arrive at the event in such a camper.
If coming in a minibus please contact the organiser, so parking can be reserved in the main campsite car park. This car park is the closest to the start but 1km from assembly, finish and the toilet block that we will be using.
Young children will need supervision walking between finish and parking as the route will be along the road.

Map / Terrain

Map 1:7500, A4 for all courses

Wooded with complex and often confusing contour detail and many rock features. There is a sparse path network, mainly centred around the group of buildings in the South of the area, and few other line features. Rocky ridges tend to form parallel valleys. Only larger rock features are generally mapped. There is much sloping rock: Crags are shown only where the rock is near-vertical.

There are some buildings which form the heart of the Scout activities in the South of the area, and groups may be in residence. Do not enter any buildings.

There are various un-mapped temporary (and not-so-temporary) structures in the terrain, used for outdoor activities.

Impenetrable areas of windblow are mapped using the heavy undergrowth screen.
