What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Well done to everyone who joined us for the first event in this year's Park Series at Fell Foot tonight - the rain stayed away and we hope you all enjoyed the double sprint courses !

Many thanks to all who were involved in tonight's event in any way, particularly to John P for planning, Nick as safety controller, John P as Series Co-ordinator, Rach for first aid cover, the control collectors Cath, Nick and John and the SI Team of Ali & Mike.

First in a series of three events in South Lakes parks. Two sprint races at each event plus a Yellow (novice) course for newcomers and younger juniors.

Fast open grassland with small blocks of woodland and some buildings with a network of hard surface paths.  Mapped areas of rough open may change depending on how the area is mown.

Competitors on the sprint courses may encounter small areas of low level brambles and short steep slopes.

If you come across an open gate/door marked as uncrossable please do not pass through.

The access road to the car parks will be marked as a forbidden route on the map.

 

Shorts may be worn.  Shoes with some grip advised.

If the weather is bad you may be required to carry a hooded waterproof jacket, and potentially hat, gloves and waterproof trousers. You should bring these to the event and notices will be displayed in the car park and at the start.

You are advised to carry a whistle.

Course Information

2x sprint races with estimated winning time 12 minutes at each event, and a Yellow (novice) course aimed at newcomers and younger juniors.

Apart from a short section of the access road to the boat houses which has minimal traffic all other areas are traffic free and under 16s may run the sprint courses.

How to choose a course

Entry Details

Online entries are available via SiEntries. Online entry will close at 23:59 on Sunday 24th August, some entry on the day will also be available.

Fees for online entry:

  • £6 for seniors who are members of either British Orienteering (BO) or LOC
  • £7 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
  • £4 for juniors and full-time students
  • Free for LOC Juniors

Fees for entry on the day (Cash only & correct change please):

  • £7 for seniors who are members of either BO or LOC
  • £8 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
  • £4 for juniors and full-time students
  • Free for LOC Juniors

Registration and Start times

Registration from 17.00

Starts from 17:30 to 19:00. Courses close at 19:30.  Controls will be collected at this time.

Note that the starts will close at 19:00 for all courses.  If you intend to run both sprint courses allow sufficient time to complete and download the 1st course before starting the 2nd course.

Please start early if you think you will take over 30 minutes per course.

Registration will offer entry on the day (EOD) opening at 17:00, and SI cards (dibbers) and compasses will be available for those who do not have them.

Facilities

The NT café closes at 17:00

Toilets are available in the North car park which is passed through en-route to the South car park.

There are also toilets near the café.  Please don’t use these until after your run.

Dog restrictions

No dogs on courses.
