Report

Well, it started off very wet and windy tonight, but had dried up by the time you all finished ! Well done to everyone who made it up onto Cunswick Scar tonight for the latest Night Terrain event.

Many thanks to everyone who was out in the rain helping tonight, particularly Alan for Planning, Nick as Safety and First Aid cover, Jane for helping put controls out, Duncan, Ian, Nick and Gavin for collecting them all in again and the SI Team of Ali, Mike and Jerry.

Overview

Open limestone fell with mostly easily runnable grass, and a good network of footpaths: these are easy underfoot but can be hard to identify on the ground, because users tend to spread out sideways rather than walking single file. This could be tricky in places for the novice course, which is why we are describing it as yellow, not white. There will be a short taped route at one indistinct path junction to help with finding the way ahead.

At the north end, terrain is rougher and paths are easier to identify. The technical courses will visit this part of the area. The long will visit a disused quarry at the NE end.

Many patches of vegetation, mostly gorse, with a little runnable woodland and some individual trees. No thick woodland. A lovely place for a night-time run, but exposed: please wrap up well!
