Map / Terrain
A lovely open fell area, ideal for a local night-time event, but exposed, so please wrap up well!
Open limestone fell with mostly runnable grass, and a good network of footpaths. These are easy underfoot but in a few places, indistinct. A few new, indistinct, unmapped paths have developed. Power lines are not mapped.
Participants on the yellow course are advised to pay particular attention to linear features such as walls and fences, as well as the sometimes indistinct paths.
At the northern end, terrain is rougher and paths are easier to identify. The two technical courses will visit this area. The long course will visit a disused quarry at the NE side.
Many patches of vegetation, mostly gorse, with a little runnable woodland and some individual trees.
For those on the long and short courses, please ensure that the gates between the northern and southern parts of the area are closed after you have gone through.
The area is high and exposed. You are recommended to carry a spare warm layer, hat and gloves, and shoes with good grip. If the weather is bad, it may be compulsory to also wear or carry a hooded waterproof jacket. You should bring one to the event. Notices will be displayed in the car park if required.
You must carry a whistle, have a good head torch that is suitable for navigation, and carry a spare torch. A compass is essential. Carrying a mobile phone is recommended. Anyone travelling on their own, should leave car keys at registration.
Any participants with high risk medical conditions, may leave details with the organisers (confidentially).
