What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Overview

Classic Lakeland open fell area with a mix of large and detailed contour features, marshes, crag and rock detail, steep slopes and small tarns. The area has a limited path network but good off-path runnability when the bracken is down. Popular with walkers, fell runners and sheep (not mapped), the area normally has great views of the surrounding high fells and Lake Windermere.

Competitors are reminded that they will be sharing the area with other users, and to be respectful and considerate towards other users.

Directions / Parking

Registration and Download will be at Ambleside United Football Clubhouse at NY 372043. Nearest postcode LA22 0SW. No Competitor’s vehicles allowed in the Clubhouse car park.

Competitors are encouraged to car-share as much as possible.

The recommended parking is adjacent to Registration in Millerbridge carpark at NY 374041. Nearest postcode LA22 OEE.

Please pay and display at the machines.

Millerbridge has room for group minibuses and mobile homes.

There is a good bus network for the event, see the 'Public Transport options' section for more details.

There will be a safety control after the Finish, please punch there as you go past as it is an important part of our safety strategy.

Parking/Assembly > Start 2.5k, 180m via clothing dump/finish (clothes left at own risk).

Finish/Clothing dump > Parking/Assembly 2k, downhill.

Blank maps will not be provided at the start.

Yellow maps will be at Registration with an opportunity for those runners to discuss the course before running.

Courses will close at 15.00.

Please remember to return to Download as soon as possible when you have finished your run.

If you cannot complete your course by the course closing time please retire and return to Download as the nature of the area requires swift action in the event of a missing competitor and we will not delay contacting the Mountain Rescue.

Registration and Start times

Entries have closed on SI Entries, the entry list is available here.

Helpers should contact the Organiser (Harry Scott <scott.harry2000@gmail.com>) before entering to get the helper code to reduce the cost of entry.

Also, for the Orange and Yellow courses there will also be some EOD particularly aimed at newcomers and families, please contact Carol McNeill (crlmcneill@gmail.com) for these courses.

Hire SI Cards will be available free of charge at the event but there will be the usual £30 fee for a lost SI Card.

In order to manage the flow of runners through the start all runners must use the selected start window if possible.

Any entry queries which cannot be sorted out on the SiEntries website should be addressed to loc@onlineorienteer.co.uk before the event, or at Download on the event day before you go to the start.

Unless they have any queries about their entry competitors can go directly to the Start for their booked start time.

Facilities

Precautions

Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult on the fell.

Whistles will be compulsory.

Cags: waterproof jackets are strongly recommended and might be made compulsory on the day, make sure you bring one to the event.

Since this is a Lakeland area in Spring please remember that you need to wear or carry appropriate clothing. Full lower leg cover is required

Traders

Compasspoint will be present near Registration with their equipment shop. NWJS will also be running a cake stall - please support them if you can!

Toilets and Showers

Toilets are kindly provided by Ambleside United Amateur Football Club in their clubhouse. Please be respectful and take your muddy shoes and dobs/spikes off before entering the clubhouse.

If the COVID situation allows, the clubhouse showers will be available to competitors wishing to use them.

First aid and medical

First aid will be available in tent near the remote finish and at registration (clubhouse) but please DIY if at all possible to avoid unnecessary contact.

Companions will be asked to take injured people to hospital if needed.
