All courses will have a double-sided map.
Courses use a combination of streets, paths, parks, ginnels, under passes and road crossings. Some controls are on lamp posts, which aren’t mapped. However, the control circles are accurately centred.
Coniston provides a rural urban environment. The village is relatively hilly and the terrain is 95% tarmac & 5% grass.
Some of the roads have no street lighting or pavement, including near the start. Competitors must have a torch and light coloured/reflective clothing. A head torch is recommended. This is particularly important for juniors. A reminder that all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
At the end of Nov there could be adverse weather conditions. Waterproof jackets may be required to be worn. Wet, fallen leaves could be slippery on slopes. It is bin day on Thurs so there may be bins out in some of the ginnels. Coniston is a quiet village and locals will not be used to people running the streets at this time of day. Please be aware of the general public, especially around blind corners.
