Map / Terrain
Map by Martin Bagness (thank you to Warrior Orienteering Club for the loan of the map)
Scale 1:5000
Contour interval 2.5m
- Brathay Hall is made up of a mixture of woodland and parkland. The woodland is undulating with some contour and rock detail. Runnability is mostly good, although there are some patches of bracken, marked with the "rough open scattered trees" symbol. The parkland is grazed and very runnable, with some contour detail and crags of varying heights. Marshes may be heavier going depending on the weather. Blobs of white in the parkland tend to indicate large individual trees rather than copses.
- The Long and Short courses visit both the woodland and the parkland, whereas the Orange and Yellow stay mainly in the parkland. Note: The Orange course has a control that is visited twice (control 4/9) at the start and end of a short loop. This should be clear on the map but it may be worth warning juniors who haven't come across this before.
- Do not cross fences that are overprinted in purple except at the crossing points marked on the map with the crossing point symbol. These are either gates or stiles. Lines have been cut to indicate a choice of crossing points, or bent to indicate that you must use a particular crossing point.
- There may be livestock grazing - please close all gates behind you.
- There are deer in the woodland - please check for ticks after your run.
- Brathay Hall is a relatively compact area. Check your control codes and make sure you're following the correct "red line" towards your next control rather than a later/earlier one!
