Report

A beautiful sunny evening, a new area for orienteering, fantastic views across Windermere and the fells and some great courses - what more could we want ?! We hope you all enjoyed the event this evening.

As always, many thanks to all the LOC volunteers helping with the event tonight - Alan H for Planning, Gill as Safety Controller, Alan also as Series co-ordinator, Derek A and Gill for first aid cover, the control collectors Jamie, Sam, Michael, Gill, Anne and Cath and the SI Team of Mike, Sandy and Janet.

Also a final thanks from Derek A to all who took any of the spare shoes he was giving away tonight - 8 pairs have been recycled and saved from the rubbish bin !

Overview

The event area includes Brant Fell itself and also some of the hillside overlooking Bowness, which is steep in places. The rocky summit of Brant Fell provides interesting navigation challenges, and is visited by all courses (twice by the Long!). The lower hillside is mostly wooded, with some open ground. It is crossed by several footpaths, including the Dales Way, and there are likely to be walkers around, often with dogs.
