Map / Terrain
The area consists entirely of open fell land, divided in two by the Walna Scar Road. The section to the south and east of the road is relatively flat, with marshy areas and numerous footpaths (not all mapped). To the north and west there is a steeper hillside with many rock features and intricate contour detail. The yellow and orange courses will stay entirely on the lower area south and east of the road, while the technical courses will make full use of the hillside above.
Any competitors retiring from the technical courses should try to use either the road leading to the Bursting Stone Quarry or the footpath to the west of it, or return via the start. Descending at other points could potentially lead to difficult ground.
Full leg cover isn’t compulsory, unless the weather is bad.
The whole area is exposed and if the weather is bad, you may be required to carry a hooded waterproof jacket, and potentially hat, gloves and waterproof trousers. You should bring these to the event and notices will be displayed in the car park.
You must carry a whistle.
