What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Directions / Parking

There is no parking at Allan Bank, Grasmere.

Parking in Grasmere Village pay & display car parks or Grasmere Primary School (payment via honesty box) located W3W ///sandals.hurricane.shudders.

It is a 5-10 minute walk from car parks to registration at Allan Bank. Directions to the event will be at the drive entrance in the village W3W ///shields.runways.condense from where it is 100m walk up to the house and grounds.

Map / Terrain

Forest/Woodland/ Fields variety of paths/fences/walls/crags.

There are a number of steep banks and crags in the area, please make sure small children are monitored at all times and that any children competing alone are aware of the crag symbol and contour detail.

We will have the navigation hub near registration with map examples.

Shoes with good grip are strongly recommended on the Orange and score courses.

How to choose a course

Entry Details

Entries via SI entries now open, EOD available at Registration

Registration and Start times

Registration will be in the billiards room. Please do not wear muddy shoes or shoes with metal dobbs in the billiards room.

Start and finish will be close together next to the main house.

Registration from 1:00pm for entry on the day. 

SI cards (dibbers) and compasses will be available at Registration for those who do not have their own.

Start times are from 1:30pm to 2:45pm. 

Courses will close at 3:30pm.

You should make your way to the finish by 3:30pm even if you have not completed your course.

Facilities

Toilets at Allan Bank are situated inside the main house. Please note orienteers are welcome to use the toilets but access to the rest of the house is for National Trust Members or paying public only. Furthermore, please do not wear muddy shoes or shoes with metal dobbs inside the main house or the billiards room.

Dog restrictions

Dogs on leads allowed please be mindful of roads, public and other course competitors.

LEAGUE COURSES White/Yellow/Orange earn points in the Junior league & top up your school points. Juniors competing must take part by themselves.

OPEN COURSES white/yellow/orange/score open courses, enjoy the open courses. In groups, pairs or alone & practice your orienteering skills.
