Injuries? Do you stretch enough?

Deyna Hirst is running a series of sessions on Wednesday mornings for orienteers on zoom. Read on for details of these sessions.

Do you do stretch enough?

Strength and stretch training helps prevent injury and helps our body recover after injury. Orienteers (runners) hold contraction in their muscles to protect joints over rough ground. But if this contraction isn't regularly released our muscle fibres can lose elasticity. Stretching our muscles and connective tissue creates support for the joints and promotes the flow of oxygen through connective tissue and internal organs.

Strengthening our core stability alleviates pressure from the knees and ankles while running and helps the whole muscular-skeletal structure to be flexible with movement over a variety of terrain. After listening about the injury problems of runners at recent events I thought it might be useful to offer a course of sessions targeted at my orienteering/running colleagues. Stretching early in the morning helps reset habits and patterns held in the body and builds strength and flexibility. I’m therefore offering a weekly session via Zoom on a Wednesday morning from 8:15-9:15am. The cost will be £35 for a course of 5 sessions, or £10 drop in.
