Creating the Event Description files from Purple PenTo create the course description files for the results
If you are planning with Purple Pen software you can provide the course description file used by the SI Timing (and Autodownload) results software, the files for Routegadget and the 'All Controls' map by following the processes below.
Purple Pen version 3.2.0 onwards is required (freely downloadable).
This information is needed for all events where we provide results on the website using the computer system.
Creating the XML Course Description file from Purple Pen
The sequence is:
1. Open the event file in Purple Pen – you should see the map and the control lists
2. Select ‘File ’ from the top menu
3. Select the ‘ Create Data Interchange File (IOF XML) … ’
4. Add a name (preferably including the area name and date) in your desired directory when prompted
5. Select ‘Save ’
6. Email the .XML file you have created to the SI Manager
Creating the RouteGadget files from Purple Pen
The sequence is:
1. Open the event file in Purple Pen – you should see the map and the control lists
2. Select ‘File ’ from the top menu
3. Select the ‘ Create RouteGadget Files ... '
4. In the dialog presented
change the filename to <areaname>RG
select the desired folder option
5. Select ‘Create ’
6. Email the .XML file, .gif and .gfw (if present) files you have created to the SI Manager
(NB If the map file was georeferenced you will find another file created, send that as well.
Printing the 'All Controls' map in PDF from from Purple Pen
The sequence is:
1. Open the event file in Purple Pen – you should see the map and the control lists
2. Select ‘File ’ from the top menu
3. Select ‘Print Courses’
4. Select ‘All Controls’ in tick boxes, untick all other courses
5. Select ‘Change Printer’
- Select printer as Microsoft print to PDF
- Select ‘Print’
- Print to selected directory
6. Email the .PDF file you have created to the SI Manager
