What does this mean?
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

It started off as a beautiful, dry, sunny evening at Wray Castle tonight, despite the rain later (did you see the double rainbow?) we hope you enjoyed the courses. Thank you also for joining us for the prizegiving for both the Explorers and previous series winners.

A series of four events in South Lakeland parkland. At each event expect a long and short course with a winning time of around 30 minutes, and a novice course for those newer to orienteering and children.
N.B. we will be holding a prizegiving at 18:30 near the cafe (open) for the 2024 Junior Explorer series, and then at 19:00 for the 2024 event series (sprint, summer and sprint).

Directions / Parking
Parking at the castle. The car park is pay and display till 9pm, free for National Trust members. Prices are 2 hours £6, 2-4 hours £7.50 and 4+hours £9. Please car share where possible. Start, finish and download are all a short distance from parking. Dogs on leads are permitted in the castle grounds but not while on the courses.

Map / Terrain
Enjoy orienteering along the western shore of Windermere through the castle's formal gardens and woodland, and venture into adjacent farmland with contour features and many trees. Courses may also visit the Low Wray Campsite which is a woodland area with a good path network.Thank you to the National Trust for access.
Course Information
Long 4.7 km 120 m climb 24 controls (2 part map, turn over halfway)
Short 2.9 km 100 m climb 16 controls
Novice 2.7 km 70 m climb 15 controls. This is an 'orange' standard course, controls just off line features but easily visible, several decisions to be made at junctions of line features on each leg.

Online entries are open at SiEntries. Online entry will close at 23:59 on Sunday 1st September, some entry on the day will also be available.
Fees for online entry:
- £6 for seniors who are members of either British Orienteering (BO) or LOC
- £7 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
- £4 for juniors and full-time students
- Free for LOC Juniors
Fees for entry on the day:
- £7 for seniors who are members of either BO or LOC
- £8 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
- £4 for juniors and full-time students
- Free for LOC Juniors

Starts 17.30 until 18.30
Registration for entry on the day will open at 17.00, and SI cards (dibbers) and compasses will be available for those who do not have them.

Safety Notes
A waterproof jacket with a hood may be required in bad weather. Please bring one with you to the event in case. National Trust have a wind strength limit for using their land, we will follow their tree safety guidance in the event of extreme winds. All courses cross the vehicle driveway to the castle, please take care.
Courses close at 19:30 and controls will be collected from this time. Don't forget to download whether you complete a course or not.
