Event Report

An excellent way to  finish 2020 in terms of Orienteering, thanks to Iain for the concept, planning and execution.

The preliminary results/splits direct from today's event are presented in HTML form, with a PDF document showing Iain's final results including the additional bonuses and penalties.

-----------------------------

Some notes from Iain:

When I try to do this type of event in the future, can someone please remind me that it needs to be easy to produce a set of results!  If anyone feels agrieved at their final result, please send me an email explaining why you think it needs to be changed...
The Bonus points added were for a variety of reasons - some went for visiting HAPPY first, so their final results showed HAPPY XMAS.  Some went for XMAS first - not the optimum route!, but deserving of some extra points.  Shortbread biscuits (for the planner) also attracted a bonus...  There were a number of fancy-dress outfits which were worthy of extra points.  Only 5 of you got ALL the bonuses within the allotted time - an extra 5 points for each full minute under is your prize.  Matt's time of under 50 minutes was quite impressive!
We were really lucky with the weather - from the top of Birkrigg the 360° views were spectacular.  We also just squeaked the event in before going into Tier 4!
From the comments afterwards it seemed that most of you enjoyed the slightly different format.
Many thanks for coming - and special thanks to Graham Farley for putting out/collecting in controls, Francis for collecting in, and our usual team of Dick/Dave/Mike/Ali on computers.
Stay Safe - have a great New Year wherever you are, and lets hope we can get back to orienteering again as soon as possible...
Iain

Pre Event Info

This will be PRE-ENTRY only using 15 minute time blocks - see 'Entry Details' section.

Entries have now closed and the start list is attached in the 'Registration & Start Times.

Since there is a revised tier definition after the current lockdown ends on the 2nd December we respectfully request that competitors from tiers 3 and 4 areas do not enter the event in the interest of reducing the risk of transmission.

As usual with a Turkey race planned by Iain, it won't be quite 'normal'...  Like everything else, orienteering has been a long way from normal this year.

With 2020 being Lakeland O.C.'s 50th birthday year, wouldn't it be great to finish the year with a big party?

Basic premise is a 60 minute Score event (with a couple of twists). There will be lots of opportunities for bonus points - many discretionary

Fancy dress is optional but remember those bonus points!!, so will be much encouraged!!  Just remember it's late December - it could well be cold!!

There will be controls/courses suitable for ALL abilities - from beginners to 21 Elites...!

Splits printouts will be provided at Download but there will be NO results on display at the event. The results will be presented on the LOC website ASAP afterwards as usual.

The Start list including times is attached in the Registration & Start Times section.

As usual the controls including the Finish will be SiAC enabled.

Coronavirus (COVID 19)

Remember that we must operate under the BOF and Government guidelines in terms of Coronavirus (COVID 19) so please consider the following before entering and note that it is important that everyone observes the restrictions.

Fitness to Attend

Competitors must not attend the event if any of the following apply and will be asked to sign tto that effect as part of entry process:

They or someone in their household have displayed symptoms of Covid-19 in the past 14 days
They or someone in their household has been tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 14 days
The test and trace service has asked them to self-isolate at the present time
A medical professional has advised or asked them to self-isolate in the past 14 days

Social Distancing

We will be following BOF’s Covid guidelines but trust everyone will be using their common sense to ensure that all competitors are as safe as possible.

We insist that the number and mix of people in any single group must not break the Government and BOF rules and Guideline. This includes the parking field, the Start, Finish and Download.

To prevent transmission of the virus hand sanitiser must be used where provided, particularly before Registration, map pickup (at the Start) and Download and we request that you wear a face mask at Registration and Download.

We respecrfully ask you to arrive just before you need to go your start  for your start time, and to leave the event as soon as possible after you have finished and downloaded – there can be no comparing of route choices and splits discussion in the car park.

Anyone coming will be expected to adhere to social distancing measures at all times, only travelling to the event with members of their own household or bubble, keeping 2 metres apart whilst attending and using hand sanitiser/washing their hands as appropriate, particularly at the Start and Download.

Pre-entries and on-line editing has now closed and the start list is here, the time given is the first minute of the 15 minute time slot. Please check all your details and contact me () if there are any errors or omissions.

In order to manage the flow of runners through the start all runners must use the selected start window if possible.

Any entry queries which cannot be sorted out on the Si Entries website should be addressed to  before the event, or at Download on the event day before you go to the start.

Unless they have any queries about their entry competitors should go directly to the Start for their booked start time, they should come to the event changed ready to run and to leave after downloading before changing.

Any LOC members who DO NOT own an Si Card and would like to enter this or any of the possible events in the near future can borrow one (Si Card 5) until the crisis is over, please e-mail  with your name, Ageclass/gender, Year of Birth, BOF no., and I will arrange that one can be collected at the first event you attend. There will be the usual £30 fee for a lost SI Card.

Course Information

The following courses will be available:

  • Christmas Score
  • Yellow

The score course will be designed with everyone being able to compete.

There will be a safety control after the Finish, please punch there as you go past as it is an important part of our safety strategy.

Please remember to return to Download as soon as possible when you have finished your run but please move away from the Download area after downloading.

Explanation of Score courses

You don't have to visit all the controls! There is usually a time limit, instead of a set course. Points are scored for visiting controls, and deducted for finishing over the time limit. You decide which controls to visit, and in which sequence. Sometimes controls have different points values. You will need to carry a watch or phone, so you know how long you have been out.

Entry Details

Entry fees:

  • Seniors:   £5
  • Juniors/Students:   £3

The start times will be available on the Si Entries event page showing the time window format or in PDF form here showing the first time within the 15 minute start window after entries close. Helpers should ignore the time slot entry on the Si Entries in favour of agreeing their start time with the Organiser.

Pre-existing medical conditions which may be relevant during the event should be declared when you enter or written down and handed into Enquiries in an envelope.
