What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Report

Thank you all for joining us for the first of this year's Turkey events at Rydal Hall this morning - the weather was dry, but chilly and the courses took us all over the map and around it several times on the long course ! Thank you all for also car sharing so much this morning, it made the job of parking you all easier.

As usual, many thanks go to several people for working over Christmas to put on the event today - Iain for planning such great courses, Nick for safety controlling, the Osborne Family for car parking, Jack, Harry and Iain for control collecting and the SI Team of Ali, Mike and Charlotte.

Also many thanks to Rydal Hall for allowing us to use the area today.

Map / Terrain

Scale is 1:2500.

Rydal Hall is a lovely area for a Turkey Race. There is a sculpture trail, camping pods, a river, waterfalls, an ice house, bridges, formal gardens, and woodland... and every course will visit everything! It is perfect for everyone... families, those new to orienteering, anyone wanting some gentle post-Christmas exercise, and the fast boys and girls who want/need a short sharp sprint race (or two!) As usual, there will be a box of biscuits/chocolates on hand at the finish, and there is a possibility the on-site cafe will be open for post event coffees, hot chocolates, cakes etc. It might be late in the year, but this might just be the best event you will go to in 2023!!
