What does this mean?
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Overview
Newton Fell is an open ridge with the highest point around 200m, used for rough grazing for sheep and cattle. There may be stock in the fields during the event. There may be ticks present and competitors should check themselves after the event. The area is divided by uncrossable walls or fences into three parts.
The northernmost part, used by all courses, is mainly grassy or short vegetation, with plenty of contour detail.
One compulsory crossing points must be used to reach the middle area used by the courses. This area has more complex contour features, including an area of former quarrying. The going is generally slower with several crossable marches. The eastern part of this area slopes down through bracken, bramble and scrub slopes with complex vegetation changes.

Parking will be in the field at SD407832, signed from the road junction at SD405832 300m SW of the parking.

There is a taped route from control 3 to 4 on the Orange course and Orange maps will be handed out as runners leave the parking field to go to the start.
The Short course is not a cut-off from the Long course.
Long and short have a high wall to cross with a control at the crossing point
The Start is 200m away from parking with 25m climb and the Finish adjacent to parking.
Courses will close at 19.30.

Registration and Start times
Registration has been by pre-entry only using SIEntries based on 15 minute time blocks but is now full so it has closed for Long and Short courses.
Start times will be available from 16.45 until 18.30, there will be a limit of 105 runners. The start list is attached here.
In addition families, juniors and novices can get 'Entry on the day' on the Orange course by e-mailing Carol McNeill <crlmcneill@gmail.com>. These runners will be offered start times from 16.45-17.45.
Some competitors may be asked to stay until 19.30 when courses close in case someone fails to return on time.
Facilities
Precautions
Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.
Whistles will be compulsory.
Since this is a Lakeland woodland area please remember that you need to wear or carry appropriate clothing. Full lower leg cover is required. If the weather is inclement, cagoules may be advised on the day.
There are a few public footpaths through the completion areas – please avoid contact with the public!
Traders
There will be no traders or food stalls.
Toilets
There are no toilets.
First aid and medical
First aid will be available at the finish but please DIY if at all possible to avoid unnecessary contact.
Companions will be asked to take injured people to hospital if needed.
