Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Terrain type: Fell & Woodland

Last updated: Tue 09 April, 2024

Overview

An attractive area for an evening event, consisting

partly of open fell and partly mostly runnable woodland.

Running here in the summer is hampered by bracken,

but this should only be starting to appear on the 1 st May

and will not be an obstacle to progress. It lends itself

ideally to both technical and novice courses.

Directions / Parking

Thornthwaite Farm, Woodland, PC LA20 6DF SD243885

Parking will be in a field alongside the event area, by
kind permission of Thornthwaite Farm. Parking charge
£1 per car. Access from the east by the approach road
to the farm, and through the farmyard.
The farm approach starts on the minor Woodland to
Grizebeck road, named on some maps as High Cross
Lane, about 1km south of the hamlet of Woodland. The
junction will be signed.
If approaching from the south we advise NOT using
High Cross Lane from opposite Grizebeck Service
Station, which is narrow without passing places for long
distances. Instead come via the (unnamed) road
starting at the high point on the A5092 between
Beanthwaite and Gawthwaite over Subberthwaite
Common.
If coming from the north turn off the A593 at Baskell
and follow High Cross Lane.

Map / Terrain

Full leg cover isn’t compulsory.

The open area is exposed, the woodland less so. All

courses visit the open area, all but the yellow visit the

woodland. If the weather is bad you may be required to

carry a hooded waterproof jacket.

You must carry a whistle.
