Report

Thank you everyone for joining us at the top of the Duddon Valley for the Cumbrian Gallopen event at Hardknott today, we hope you enjoyed the area and your courses !

Many thanks to all the LOC helpers today, particularly Chris for planning, Gill for organising and Derek A for controlling. Also many thanks to those who stopped and helped the injured competitor and to the Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team for their expertise and help, we wish them a very speedy recovery.

Organisers Report:

I hope everyone who came to Hardknott on Sunday had an enjoyable & challenging run.

Many thanks to Chris Heppenstall & Derek Allison who placed & checked all the controls the previous day in 20m visibility!

Fortunately Sunday dawned bright & clear which enabled competitors to enjoy the fantastic views.

Unfortunately we had a casualty , Janet Nash [LOC W70] who sustained an ankle fracture. Thankfully between LOC first aiders, Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue team, several LOC members & other Club members, Janet was whisked away very speedily by the Air Ambulance from Blackpool to the Royal Hospital in Preston.

Janet is in good spirits awaiting surgery & wishes to thank everyone involved for their help & support. We wish her well.

Please note that Routegadget is available on the website.

We also found a small pair of earphones in a black box. If anyone claims them please contact me.

Map / Terrain

New area mapped by Martin Bagness in 2021 & updated by Chris Heppenstall in 2023.

The area has a wealth of intricate rock & contour detail in a stunning setting. Rocky underfoot in parts but the majority of the area is runnable , being mostly above the bracken line & grazed by sheep

Full leg cover is not compulsory.

The area is exposed and, if the weather is bad, you may be required to carry a hooded waterproof jacket, and potentially hat, gloves and waterproof trousers. You should bring these to the event and notices will be displayed in the car park and at the start.

You must carry a whistle.

You must download even if you retire so we know you are back safe.
