Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Overview

Wooded with complex and often confusing contour detail and many rock features. There is a sparse path network, mainly centred around the group of buildings in the South of the area, and few other line features. Rocky ridges tend to form parallel valleys. Only larger rock features are generally mapped. There is much sloping rock: Crags are shown only where the rock is near-vertical.

There are some buildings which form the heart of the Scout activities in the South of the area, and groups may be in residence. Do not enter any buildings.

Smaller paths are likely to be obscured by leaf litter and so may be hard to see.

There are various un-mapped temporary (and not-so-temporary) structures in the terrain, used for outdoor activities.

(**) For the Brown courses a 1:7500 scale map will be available on request to the Organiser before the end of Wednesday 17th November.

Please do not be put off by the stated amount of climb on your course. On many legs, a considerable proportion of the measured climb can be avoided by careful route choice.

The White course has two taped sections between controls. The Yellow course has one taped section between controls.

The Green and Blue courses use two maps each, both of which will be on the same side of the paper. The Brown course uses three maps (two on the front and one on the back).

Where courses go near to particularly large crags, the tops of these have been marked with black and yellow tape in the terrain.

Blank maps will be provided at the start for all courses except Yellow and White, the maps for these will be provided at Registration with an opportunity for those runners to discuss the course before running.

All runners MUST punch (physical punch) the Start control and the Safety control positioned after the finish - this is our primary way to confirm whether a runner has finished if someone is apparently missing.

Courses will close at 15:00.

If you cannot complete your course by the course closing time please retire and return to Download as the nature of the area requires swift action in the event of a missing competitor and we will not delay contacting the Mountain Rescue.

PLEASE DOWNLOAD IMMEDIATELY AFTER FINISHING EVEN IF YOU RETIRE SO THAT WE CAN BE SURE ALL RUNNERS ARE BACK.
