Map / Terrain

Torver Low Common is an interesting, open area but it can be boggy and exposed to the weather! There will potentially be a road to cross from one of the car parking areas and a small walk along the road to access the event, so children should be accompanied by an adult. Car sharing is encouraged and a fee of £1/car will be collected.

Torver Low Common is entirely open with a few paths and terrain varying from runnable grass on the higher ground to tussocky bog and died-back bracken. There are several small tarns and a disused reservoir, which are uncrossable. It is an upland exposed area with the possibility of being in cloud in poor weather. There are no massive hills but it certainly isn’t flat.

Some small paths are not mapped. Care will be needed around the larger crags but the courses avoid crossing these.

Full leg cover isn’t compulsory but the area is exposed and if the weather is bad you may be required to carry a hooded waterproof jacket, and potentially hat, gloves and waterproof trousers. You should bring these to the event and notices will be displayed in the car park and at the start.

You must carry a whistle.
