What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Thank you all for joining us on another lovely evening for the latest event in the Summer Series tonight !We hope you enjoyed the courses and the mix of terrain on the Long and Short courses particularly. Hopefully you didn't get lost in the really tall bracken on the Orange or Yellow courses !

Parking per car is £2 (please car share if you can)

From the south, turn off A590 for Haverthwaite.

Pre-event Details

Map / Terrain

Full leg cover is compulsory.

You must carry a whistle.

The fell area is exposed with areas of marsh, crags and the bracken is high at this time of year, the woodland area has steep ground in places with crags of various heights and caution must be taken, areas of marsh and holly bushes. Please respect out of bound areas and do not cross any walls. Use only designated crossing points.

Remember to check for ticks after your run.

If the weather is bad you may be required to carry a hooded waterproof jacket, and potentially hat, gloves and waterproof trousers. You should bring these to the event and notices will be displayed in the car park and at the start.

Course Information

Long 4.7 km 280m climb 21 controls

Short 3.5 km 190m climb 15 controls

Orange 2.0 km 105m climb 10 controls

Yellow 1.5 km 75m climb 9 controls

Yellow and Orange courses stay on the open fell and follow a mix of paths and line features due to the nature of the terrain.

Map Scale 1:5000 all courses and on A4 waterproof paper. 5m contours.

Start:- 400m from the car park

Finish:- 300m from the car park

Course closing time 20.00

There will be livestock (sheep with lambs) present in the fell area so caution must be taken.

How to choose a course

Entry Details

Online entries are open at SiEntries. Online entry will close at 23:59 on Sunday 23rd June, some entry on the day will also be available.

Fees for online entry:

  • £6 for seniors who are members of either British Orienteering (BO) or LOC
  • £7 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
  • £4 for juniors and full-time students
  • Free for LOC Juniors

Fees for entry on the day:

  • £7 for seniors who are members of either BO or LOC
  • £8 for seniors who are not members of either BO or LOC
  • £4 for juniors and full-time students
  • Free for LOC Juniors

If entering on the day, the correct change would be very much appreciated please!

Courses close 8pm

Maps for ALL COURSES will be at the starts, and with the exception of the yellow will be picked up after starting. Yellow competitors will be allowed to study the map before starting. Copies of the orange and yellow maps will be available at Newcomer Welcome (alongside registration), where it will be possible to see them and seek help or advice if required, but not take a map away. Please take advantage of this if there is anything you aren't sure about, or if you want to talk to anyone about orienteering.
