Planners Comments
Thanks to everybody who came down to Roanhead (or Ron’ead if your local) on Sunday. It was especially good to see those of you who had travelled from as far afield as Scotland and Wales as well as from over the Pennines for the event, and I hope you feel it was a worthwhile journey.
The event was an absolute pleasure to plan, a pleasure which was then surpassed by standing near the start in the glorious sunshine with a stunning view of the Lakes and meeting all those smiling face walking back up the track from the finish. Thanks for everybody’s kind comments.
The Yellow was a challenge to plan, with limited number of very vague paths from which to choose. This dictated start and finish locations. Originally the technical courses were going to finish directly through the OOB to the NW of the finish. With the constraints of the easier courses, once we discovered we couldn’t use this, it was hard to then move the finish significantly, so we opted to bring the technical courses around the edge of the OOB instead. As a compromise the finish was moved some distance west, but inevitably this still led to dead running at the end of all the technical courses, but hopefully this didn’t prove to detrimental to your experience of an otherwise superb area.
Our apologies to the handful of people affected by a shortage of maps on the Short Green course, which saw a higher demand than usual. A few people commented that courses appeared a bit long at face value, but when you get out on the area it is fairly easy going underfoot, and due to the nature of the area the optimum route isn’t much longer than the straight line distance. The range of times on each course was as we expected and very consistent with other events, so I think we got distances about right, and I hope everybody found a course to meet their needs.
Thanks again for coming and hope you enjoyed your day!
