Charlie wins 2 Golds and a Silver at MBO World Masters

"2011 Masters World Championship for Mountain Bike O was based around Rattvik, Sweden and it was typical swedish forests that with locations close to towns had a myriad of tracks to test us out.
Saturday was the Middle Distance based on a ski area at Leksand, the forest had a huge number of tracks that had no pattern to them. On a day with some very heavy downpours, the course proved to be extremely wet with a lot of exposed slippery tree roots and the occasional boulder on the small tracks making for some more technical riding. I was an early starter and rode well and while 2 local Swedish riders got close I held onto the lead by over a minute winning Gold.
Sunday dawned a lot drier and the venue moved to the forests around Rattvik with the finish located in the cross country ski arena. This was the Long Distance. I knew I made an error early on with a slight route choice error – going the longer way round on some faster tracks, but I made a much more costly error later on, taking a track about 50 meters before mine and riding for over a minute down it before I realised my mistake. I finished the rest of the course well and it was enough to give me to Silver. The winner was one of the Swedes who has always lived in the area.
Monday was the Sprint Distance starting in the same Rattvik ski area but had us visiting a different part of the map.  I had a really exciting race, knowing I was on the margin of being in control of the map reading whist riding flat out. With an early start I knew I had set a good time and in the end it gave me a 4 minute winning margin and another Gold medal!
