Lakeland Orienteering Club - LOC

Peter Palmer Relays : Sunday 5th September 2010

The Club would very much like to get a team of Juniors together to run this event. It’s one of the most prestigious races for juniors in the country, named after one of our most important coaches, and this year is taking place just outside Nottingham.

All the details of the event are now posted on the British Orienteering website, so have a look there and email me if you’re interested. Basically we need six people to a team, including at least 2 girls (and at least two boys), whose ages add up to less than 91.

The race starts in the middle of the night and the first two runners need to be able to orienteer in the dark.

We don’t know the costs yet but it’s likely to be very reasonable.

JIRCs Gold Medal

Will Rigg, M14, lead the NWOA team to victory at the Junior Interregional Championships last weekend (26th/27th June).

Will was first in the M14 individual race just 24 seconds in front.  His splits show him running a perfectly paced race, only coming into the lead on the penultimate control.

Other LOC members backed up Will's performance.  Adam Bartlett came 21st in M14, with again a nicely paced race without any big errors.  Katie Wright, the JK Champion was 4th in W14, having overcome a small problem on the first leg she went on to match the pace of the leaders for the rest of the run.  Natalie Beadle in 9th also had a very steady run with no obvious errors.  In W16, Carrie Beadle came 16th, with only a couple of small issues.  Jack Wright was 7th in M18, just over 4 minutes down, with what looks like a steady and clean run.

From a coaches point of view, what is impressive is the overall consistency of all these runners, with none of them making mistakes more than a couple of minutes, and most not even doing that.

The teams went on to run the relays on the Sunday, but the courses were so heavily gaffled I have no idea who did well and on what legs.  When I find out I might modify this!

JK Gold Medals

Katie Wright won the Gold Medal at the JK for W14A.  She was lying third overnight and put in a fantastic run to win on the Sunday and overtake the leader by just 17 seconds.

On the Monday, Katie teamed up with Stewart and James Allison on the M/W40- class.  Katie had a solid run to bring the team in 8th.  Stewart then had a stormer and came back in the lead.  Finally James ran a controlled last leg to bring the team in comfortably in the Gold Medal position.

Well done to all of them!
