| Description |
Helsington Barrows : The area is very fast and although it looks flat there is a reasonable amount of climb and plenty of small contour features that will give a good selection of control sites for the BOC relay planners to choose from.
With limestone close to the surface in most areas the ground will drain very quickly. There are few marshy areas and all can be avoided with careful route choice. If it is wet on the day of the relays the areas of exposed limestone will be slippery and are best avoided. Dob spikes will help get a grip on the wet rock for those choosing the direct lines. |

| Parking |
Parking will be on a large area of generally flat grass adjacent to a road. The ground is free draining and no problems with getting cars on and off the area are anticipated. Competitors at Helsington Barrows will park on the old racecourse at Helsington Barrows (GR 503 917) with the assembly area visible from the area allocated for parking. Distance from the parking area to assembly will be relatively short, 500 m maximum. The cost of parking is included in your entry fee. Please note that part of the competition area is also on the old race course and whilst the field is very large, competitors should follow the instructions of parking marshalls very carefully. Please note the following travel instructionsTravel to Relay day should be along the Brigsteer Road, approaching the carpark from either a northeast direction and having passed through Kendal or from the southwest. Competitors should not approach the event from the narrow road leaving the A591 at GR 504 889. This is a single track lane, with few passing places and very high hedges.
