Club Party What night we all had (or missed!).

Many, many thanks to Steve Burge for hosting our belated 30th Birthday Bash.  There were some names from LOC's past among the numbers, and it was brilliant to see 100+ present, including quite a few junior members.  It really goes to show that the club has come a long way from when it was first formed for the more elite type runners.  The buffet was superb (a real 'deluxe' buffet!!), and the ceilidh band were excellent in getting everyone on the dance floor.

Steve had organised some great displays round the room, with photos of club members going back nearly 30 years.  There were also some (very) old maps on show along side a more recent version, an original club 'O' suit (all black!! - very imposing...), and other bits and bobs from the LOC archives.

Our birthday cake was cut by one of our up and coming juniors Alison Fryer, along with the original club secretary Chris Wright (pic. below).  Tony Richardson, who we believe is the longest serving LOC member, proposed the toast for the evening after giving a short speech about how the club has progressed from the early days into the large and successful club it is today.

Also, thanks to David Foot who sang a special orienteering version of a folk song - highly amusing and VERY orienteering based.  If only we could have put it on the web!!!

Many of the old files are now with Steve and Judy, and hopefully some of this will be used in future newsletters, and also posted onto the web-site for you all to look at.  We are also hoping to post more pictures when they are developed...
